About Black Spectacles

Black Spectacles is an online learning platform for architects and designers, offering ARE® exam prep and a software curriculum.

All of the courses are available on demand, on any device with an internet connection, and are taught by practicing architects working at firms like SOM, Gensler & Krueck + Sexton- some of the most celebrated firms in the world. 

All of our content is available on demand, on any device with an internet connection. Black Spectacles courses are taught by licensed and practicing architects from some of the most renowned firms in the world such as SOM, Gensler, and Krueck + Sexton.

Individual memberships are available on a monthly or annual recurring basis, and provide unlimited access to ARE Prep or software tutorials or both. Group memberships are also available for firms and academic institutions.

We believe that by democratizing software and ARE prep education, that we can have a positive impact on advancing what is possible in architecture and design.

 

Founder Biography

Marc Teer is the founder and CEO of Black Spectacles, a former award-winning architect at Gensler, Assistant Adjunct Professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology, and Chair of AIA Chicago's Young Architects Forum. Marc founded Black Spectacles in 2010 to advance the creative potential of architecture and design through online learning.
