What happened to ARE 4.0?

In 2016, the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) announced the first dates for ARE 5.0. This version of the exam incorporates the latest testing technologies and format that more closely aligns with modern practice. ARE 4.0 was phased out over two years.

Can I still take ARE 4.0?

As of June 30, 2018, ARE 4.0 is no longer being offered.
