Black Spectacles Employees Can Work From Wherever

Just like plenty of new routines we’ve developed in recent months, working from home is one that is going to become a mainstay for Black Spectacles. Having already declared we would be “Working From Wherever” (with sufficient internet connection) into 2021 in accordance with safety guidelines related to COVID, we have elected to extend that into infinity.

After having successfully completed multiple projects over the recent months while working from home, our leaders put the possibility of becoming a work remote organization on the table. They polled the company and solicited feedback from team members in a think tank environment, and found that general happiness, wellbeing and productivity will be highest if we execute our Work From Wherever program effectively. One downside that was presented was, “Wait, who will I shoot paper airplanes at if we don’t see each other every day?” And to remedy that valid concern, we have resolved to hold regular company retreats and gatherings, as well as to establish a dedicated multipurpose space in the Chicago area for those who crave a little interaction or need a face-to-face meeting.

The Positives beat the Negatives in this head to head matchup by a landslide, and it seems our intuition is backed by research. According to an article published by the American Psychological Association, Psychologist Timothy Golden, PhD, professor and area coordinator of enterprise management and organization at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York conducted research in 2015 on remote work satisfaction. Golden and his colleagues found that, overall, telecommuting increased job satisfaction, performance and feelings of commitment to an organization among employees. People who worked from home also tended to experience less work stress or exhaustion.

Speaking about our transition, Internal Recruiter Eric Greening said, “I think it’s awesome for current employees because it gives us even more flexibility and freedom than we already had, and is great for future employees because it lets us meet the best talent wherever they are. Having a multipurpose space in Chicago will be awesome for our teams that need to collaborate in-person, or for anyone who needs an office environment. It's the best of both worlds!”

Speaking of future employees, if you want to be a part of our Work From Wherever team, we’re hiring in a number of roles. Take a look here if you think you’re the person for the job and apply!
