When you work on a jigsaw puzzle, what’s the first thing you do? Usually you spread out all the pieces to see what you’ve got in front of you. Then you start systematically putting the pieces together. Programming & Analysis is kind of the same thing. Sometimes referred to as “pre-design”, it’s the first phase of a project where you see what you have to work with, what your opportunities are, and what challenges you might be up against.
Our team of architects will walk you through a number of scenarios to explain issues related to programming, site analysis, as well as zoning and code requirements.
It’s a lot of stuff to wrap your head around, but 3D models, animations, and graphics will help you see how all the pieces fit together.
For starters, Sean Newberry of Ankrom Moisan Architects shows how her team worked around site constraints to meet ADA accessibility compliance. Jim Viviano of 5G Studio in Atlanta explains some unique soil conditions they discovered during the PA phase. And Ann Phillips of Quinn Evans Architects details how her team used the site plan to determine if amenities could be added to an adaptive reuse project.
These are just three of the many real-life examples that make the PA lessons a lot more relatable, and the PA exam a lot more passable.
